“Memphis” debuted at TheatreWorks in 2004 – featuring James Monroe Iglehart in a scene-stealing role. “Memphis” moved to Broadway and won the Tony for Best Musical. (Iglehart went on to win the 2014 Best Actor Tony, starring as the Genie in Broadway’s Aladdin, before moving on to the current Broadway production of “Hamilton.” )

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley’s 1981 production of “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” performed in the Fire Circle Outdoor Theatre, was set in the frontier town of Windsor, Colorado. Using two miniature electric-powered trains running around the stage and through the audience, Kelley staged—and participated in—some wild-and-wooly shoot-‘em-up chases.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley’s 1988 production of Stephen Sondheim’s soaring musical “Pacific Overtures” features an all-Asian cast, TheatreWorks’s first Actors Equity Association actors, and a kabuki stage that wound through the audience. Sondheim is TheatreWorks’ most produced composer, with a total of 20 productions, many of them San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award-winners.
