Opera San José launches its 40th Anniversary season with Gounod’s "Romeo and Juliet," Sept. 9–24, 2023 at the California Theatre. This all-new production will be directed by Shawna Lucey, her first production for the company she now helms.

Indian-American soprano Melissa Sondhi returns to Opera San José for an all-new production of Gounod’s "Romeo and Juliet " (Sept. 9 – 24, 2023), where she will appear in the role of Juliet. Sondhi will also be featured as Gilda during a thrilling production of Verdi’s "Rigoletto" (Feb. 17 - Mar. 3, 2024) and as Rosalba during the Bay Area premiere of Daniel Catán's "Florencia en el Amazonas" (April 20 - May 5, 2024).
